What is the relationship between sponge and the time taken to absorb?

it's a question about three materials , COTTON , TISSUE and SPONGE . It shows that sponge can absorb more water compared to the others. So what is the relationship ? Is it about the thickness or something else ? i really need the answer as fast as possible xD kaythanks for answering !! :D
